Retired NBA veteran Lou Williams, a three-time recipient of the prestigious Sixth Man of the Year award (in 2015, 2018, and 2019), has voiced his enthusiasm for the idea of having the accolade named in his honor.

Williams, who bid farewell to his playing career this summer at the age of 36, sees the potential renaming of the award as a significant honor. He also acknowledged the contributions of fellow players like Jamal Crawford and Manu Ginobili, who, like him, championed the role of the sixth man in the league.

“That would be an honor,” Williams told TMZ Sports. “If not me – Jamal [Crawford]. If not Jamal – Manu [Ginobili]. I think we’re three guys that championed that. We made it a lifestyle, we made it something that younger guys coming into the league, if they’re not going to be superstars, not going to be All-Stars, they still have that position to make their mark on the game.

“That would be a huge honor. I’m not fighting, I’m not saying ‘No, it shouldn’t be named after me.’ I would definitely love that. But if not me, definitely Jamal. If not Jamal, definitely Manu.”
