Marcelinho Huertas heads to the Lakers

Brazilian international point guard Marcelinho Huertas has joined the Los Angeles Lakers from Barcelona on a one-year deal.

The news comes after Turkish journalist Ismail Senol reported that Huertas had agreed terms with an NBA side from the Western Conference, and seemingly snubbing a rumoured deal with Galatasaray, for whom the 32-year-old was heavily linked with a move to.

This move though realises Huertas ultimate goal of becoming an NBA player but the short term deal means that the Lakers are more than likely going to use the Brazilian sporadically or even put him to use in the D-League.

And if that turns out to be reality, it will hurt Huertas’ hopes of playing at the Rio Olympics for the host nation next year.

Regardless of what the outcomes might be, Huertas brings great European experience to the Lakers with four years at Barcelona and before that, two years at Laboral Kutxa.

In his seven playing seasons in the Euroleague, Huertas has averaged 8.0 points and 3.8 assists.
