Jason Kidd’s son TJ on comparison between his father and Magic Johnson

TJ Kidd, son of NBA legend Jason Kidd and current head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, recently discussed the comparison between his father and basketball icon Magic Johnson.

“Comparisons are funny because you’re trying to compare two different bodies of work,” TJ Kidd commented during an interview with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson on Scoop B Talks.

Magic Johnson, renowned for his Showtime Lakers era and five NBA championships, revolutionized the point guard position with his 6’9″ frame, no-look passes, and charismatic style.

TJ Kidd acknowledged the differences in style and approach between his father and Johnson. He highlighted Magic’s signature smile and carefree spirit on the court, contrasting it with his father’s straightforward and focused demeanor. While both players excelled at creating extraordinary passes, TJ Kidd emphasized that Magic’s championship legacy stands out distinctly.

“My dad, he was more straightforward about the game and he, I mean, he made all those crazy passes, too, but I think in terms of championships and obviously Magic’s Magic. I think not to discredit my dad and his career, I think you can look at both in different lights and still have the same amount of adulation and respect for both,” he said.

TJ Kidd is hosting a celebrity basketball game TJ Classic on Saturday, August 19th, at Birmingham Charter High School in Los Angeles, CA. Adding to the excitement, former NBA player Kenyon Martin will be coaching.

The event, set to evoke Nets nostalgia, serves a dual purpose – bringing basketball action while contributing to a charitable cause. The proceeds from the game will be directed towards The Ladylike Foundation, an organization dedicated to empowering and inspiring young women to achieve their full potential.
