Despite having an exceptional season that propelled him into the spotlight, the Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves was taken aback when he was extended an offer to become part of the Team USA lineup.
As a player who entered the league without being drafted, Reaves lacks the impressive track record that some of his better-known teammates possess. However, his standout performance with the Lakers captured the notice of Grant Hill, the managing director of USA Basketball.
“I was shocked,” Reaves said. “As a kid, you watch (USA Basketball) and you fantasize taking that last shot to win the gold medal. Now I’m here and with a chance to contribute and be part of it. It’s a tremendous honor personally and to also represent the Lakers.”
