In a heartfelt announcement, Ricky Rubio has revealed his decision to step back from his professional basketball career to prioritize his mental health. The statement, released by the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB), expresses his gratitude for the support received from LaFamilia, acknowledging the importance of family during challenging times.

The 32-year-old point guard, currently under a 3-year, $18 million contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers until the 2024-25 season, has faced adversity in recent years due to a severe knee injury that led to a season-ending tear of his left ACL in 2021.

Rubio’s resilience brought him back to the court in January 2023, but the toll on his well-being has prompted this decision. With an average of 5.2 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in 33 games played during the 2022-23 season, Rubio’s recent performance reflects the challenges he has been facing both mentally and physically.

Earlier this summer it has been rumored that he will part ways with the Cavaliers to re-join FC Barcelona.
