The 32-year-old point guard, currently under a 3-year, $18 million contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers until the 2024-25 season, has faced adversity in recent years due to a severe knee injury that led to a season-ending tear of his left ACL in 2021.
Rubio’s resilience brought him back to the court in January 2023, but the toll on his well-being has prompted this decision. With an average of 5.2 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in 33 games played during the 2022-23 season, Rubio’s recent performance reflects the challenges he has been facing both mentally and physically.
