Both Stephen Curry and Draymond Green are tied with the Golden State Warriors at least through the 2025-26 season, and Klay Thompson remains waiting that he’ll be awarded a contract extension to follow them.

Team owner Joe Lacob admitted that their extension talks with Thompson “are quiet at this point” but he has that optimism that they’ll hammer it eventually and cement their dynastic trio to the Bay Area until the end of their hall of fame careers.

“Certainly, we’d like Steph, Draymond and Klay to retire as Warriors,” Lacob told Madeline Kenney of the Mercury News. “That is my goal, our goal, and I think it’s a good likelihood that’ll happen.”

Thompson, 33, is extension-eligible throughout 2023-24 as he is entering the final season of the five year, $190 million contract he signed with the Warriors in 2019.

From his previous regular season averages of 21.9 points, 4.1 boards, 2.4 assists and 41.2 percent shooting from treys, Thompson certainly deserves consideration to get extended besides of the fact that he solidified himself as a Warrior for life. But as what Shams Charania and Anthony Slater of The Athletic have reported last May, he may have to consider taking a paycut to at least help the Dubs in terms of its ballooning financial payroll.

Upon trading Jordan Poole, Golden State are primed and all in on their core of Curry, Thompson and Green. But to finally complete it, they just need to hand the All-Star swingman the extension he’s been coveting.
