Marcus Smart on Celtics: “I helped rebuild that team the time when I came in. I left it better”

After nine years in Boston, Marcus Smart was traded to Memphis in the Kristaps Porzingis trade. The 29-year-old point guard reflected on his time with the Celtics during his introductory press conference for the Grizzlies.

Smart talked about his contribution to the Boston’s rebuild process, saying that helped the team get better than what it was when he joined it back in 2014.

“They’re always going to have a place in my heart,” Smart said about the Celtics. “Everything I accomplished, I left everything I had wearing that jersey out on that court.

“Although we didn’t win championship in that big scheme of things, I don’t consider my time there a failure. I helped rebuild that team the time when I came in. I left it better in that sense. I’m very ecstatic with my time there, but like I said, I’m excited for the future and what it holds for me.”
