Free agent center Montrezl Harrell opted to head back to the Philadelphia 76ers in a reported one-year deal, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Harrell became an unrestricted free agent after turning down his 2023-24 player option worth $2.76MM in veteran’s minimum amount. As such, Yossi of HoopsHype pointed out that Harrell will earn a fully guaranteed $2.89 million this year upon the return he made, but will turn to $2.02MM due to the Sixers’ cap hit.

The big man appeared in 57 games last season and averaged 5.6 points and 2.8 boards in 59.8 percent shooting for 11.9 minutes of play – a significant dip in his numbers if compared to his previous five seasons wherein he had double-digit scoring averages while enjoying over 20 minutes of exposure for the Clippers, Lakers, Wizards, and Hornets.

The former NBA Sixth Man of the Year joins Mo Bamba in the backup center slate of Philly for reigning league MVP Joel Embiid.

Restricted free agent Paul Reed remains unsigned, but the Sixers have the chance to match the offer that the big man will get from other rival teams.
