The NBA 2K officially announced Thursday that Kobe Bryant will be their cover athlete for this year’s NBA 2K24.

The gaming franchise revealed two different sets of covers – the Kobe Bryant Edition and the Black Mamba Edition. They will be released on a pre-order setup on Friday prior to September’s official release via multiple game consoles.

Greg Thomas, the game’s developer, made it known that they do desire to honor Bryant’s legacy and greatness to commemorate the 25 years of existence of the NBA 2K.

“As we celebrate 25 years of NBA 2K with Kobe Bryant, we commemorate his legacy and the generational impact he has had on the game of basketball,” Thomas said. “While we mark the history of the franchise, NBA 2K24 also looks ahead to the future to bring an innovative leap in technology and the introduction of community-requested features like crossplay.”

This marks the fourth time that the late Los Angeles Lakers icon will be the cover athlete of the NBA 2K cover – the most for any player who played in the association. He was previously featured in 2K10, 2K17, and 2K21.

Bryant passed away together with his daughter Gianna and seven other people in a tragic helicopter crash last January 2020 in Calabasas, California.
