The Dallas Mavericks are more interested in acquiring Clint Capela than John Collins from the Atlanta Hawks to fill that center hole upgrade, per league insider Marc Stein.

It was then proposed by Jake Fischer of Yahoo! Sports that the Hawks are interested to pack John Collins and their No. 15 draft pick of this year’s draft in order to acquire the Mavericks’ Top 10 selection and Davis Bertans. According to Stein, Dallas wants Collins to get swapped and eventually have Capela on the trade board.

The Mavericks have been searching for that serviceable and strong big man since Tyson Chandler, and Capela seems to be a decent one to chase for that can anchor Luka Doncic and Co. in the shaded area. The Swiss center averaged 12 markers and 11 boards last year and shot a super-efficient 65.3 percent mark across 63 matches.

But Capela being one of Trae Young’s favorites is a strong factor on the Hawks to be limited in moving the big man. Though Onyeka Okungwu has shown promising progress throughout the years, the 22-year-old isn’t entirely ready yet for the big-time role of being their frontline starter to replace Capela.

The Hawks are inclined on their goals to take a higher step next season, but the idea of trading away Capela would blow their rim presence.
