Erik Spoelstra: “Do you want me to get beat up by Jimmy [Butler]?”

Following the loss in the NBA Finals, Heat star Jimmy Butler was asked about his ankle injury. He denied the notion that it had any impact on him. The same question was given to Miami’s head coach Erik Spoelstra.

Like Butler, he also said that the player is fine and there is no excuses for the Heat’s loss against the Nuggets in the series. At the same time Spoelstra joked that the small forward would get mad if he said otherwise.

“Do you want me to get beat up by Jimmy? Right now you’re setting me up for a physical altercation?” Spoelstra smiled. “He’s fine. There’s no excuses. There’s an honor to the way Jimmy competes at this game that you have to absolutely admire and respect.

“That same honor is what this locker room was about. If you’re watching this team compete, you have to respect what this group brought to every single game and the honor to the competition that our guys brought too to the games.”
