As they continue to assess their top candidates for their head coaching vacancy, the Detroit Pistons was reportedly rejected by a prominent name amid offering a lucrative contract.
Sources told league insider Marc Stein that the Pistons sought the service of Monty Williams and handed him a “big-money” offer to accept their coaching baton. Amid this effort, they weren’t able to strike a deal.
There were whispers that despite being dismissed by the Phoenix Suns, Williams will look to settle for a break to spend his personal time with his family. Amid being fired, he is still set to earn $21MM for the next two years remaining in his contract with the franchise.
Still, the Pistons are set to move forward and consider one of their finalist trio of Kevin Ollie, Charles Lee and Jarron Collins as their newest bench boss. The club moved Dwane Casey to their front office after five years of being the voice at the sidelines.
After a league-worst 17-65 record this season, the Pistons are looking to elevate their status next year with Cade Cunningham set to return from his lengthy shin injury recovery.
