Plymouth Raiders sign Mike Vigor

The Plymouth University Raiders have signed their final professional player ahead of the 2015/16 season. Mike Vigor, a 6’9″ centre who has both Australian and Scottish nationality will join up with his new teammates at the end of August.

25 year old Vigor is currently playing for Bendigo Braves in the Australian SEABL alongside Raiders’ point guard Josh Wilcher, where he is averaging 11.1 points and 5.3 rebounds in just over 20 minutes per game. This is the second consecutive season that WIlcher and Vigor have played together for Bendigo. Before that, Vigor was on the roster with Perth Wildcats in the Australian NBL league.

“I think that right now seems to be a very exciting time for the Plymouth Raiders and I’m thrilled to be a part of it,” said Vigor. “The BBL looks to be a very strong league and I can’t wait to get amongst it. Our team will have a great culture and chemistry with the mix of local talent, imports and Australians. I can’t wait to get in the thick of everyday life in Plymouth and contribute to a successful program. Talking with Coach Jay Marriott and Josh Wilcher, there is a real passion for this club and its fan base. I’m hoping to do everything I can to help this team perform and ultimately win.”

With his Scottish ancestry and passport, he will surely be the subject of interest from the Scottish men’s international squad this year.

“Michael’s a really great addition to the squad,” said Raiders Head Coach Jay Marriott. “He really ticked every box of what we were looking for – great size, a talent that I think will really develop, a great guy and again, a player who is familiar with nearly everyone on the roster. What really sets Mike apart, is his ability to step outside and hit the three pointer (where he is averaging 39% this season), but then on the next offense, give us a big rebounding and presence inside. He has had experience in the NBL, so he’s certainly no novice or rookie, and he will be ready to contribute for us right away. I look forward to welcoming him and the rest of the squad for pre season!”
