While Luka Doncic is enticingly out of the contending picture of this year’s NBA Playoffs, a Western Conference team is reportedly monitoring his current status with the Dallas Mavericks.
As he discussed the Brooklyn Nets’ offseason primer with his Athletic colleague Alex Schiffer, John Hollinger noted that the Utah Jazz are “keeping a very interested eye” on Doncic‘s situation in the Mavericks camp.
With Dallas failing to book a seat to the playoffs in a controversial and disappointing fashion just one year after their Conference Finals run, all eyes truly are watching on the franchise’s upcoming response heading to the offseason as they will look to retool and surround the Slovenian phenom with that robust supporting cast.
In his exit interview for the team this 2022-23, Doncic stated that there certainly have to be changed around the club. Although he insisted that there should be no worries that must be formed, there is no doubt that pressure remains swirling around the Mavs as they hope to satisfy his competitive needs and bounce back from this year’s hellish campaign.
And should they fail which may convince Doncic to part ways, the Jazz got every reason to get interested and construct a compelling package to snag the superstar.
Having the Minnesota Timberwolves and Cleveland Cavaliers’ lucrative future picks on their threshold as they landed a splash in Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell deal last year, the Jazz are well equipped and keeping their patience intact on which great player will be available that they may target for a trade. Besides, they do possess young and promising talents in the likes of Collin Sexton, Talen Horton-Tucker, and Ochai Agbaji that can be presented as enticing offers.
For now, the stage is set for the Mavericks on how they can extend their ties with Doncic. But should they eventually fail for another one, the Jazz are undeniably the only club that will scramble and makes necessary efforts to lure away the All-Star.
