Nicolas Batum on Russell Westbrook: “We got to stop focusing on the negative of that guy”

Russell Westbrook has been subject to criticism, especially during the year and a half that he spent with the Lakers.

Mainly for his lack of shooting and turnovers. Such conversations have quieted since he joined the Clippers.

Westbrook’s new teammate Nicolas Batum talked about the former league MVP, saying some of the criticism is unfair.

“I’m not surprised. When they ask what do I think about having him, it’s pretty much what I envisioned,” Batum said on I Got Next podcast. “Is he going to take shots and turn the ball over? Yes, like every point guard in this league.

“It looks like when you talk about Westbrook, it feels like all the other players in the NBA are perfect. Like, nobody missed a shot, everybody average like 95 percent from three and 0.2 turnovers per game.

“One thing I like with him is at least we know what’s going to happen. But we got to stop focusing on the negative of that guy. I think we focus way too much on the negative of that guy.”

This season Westbrook averaged 15.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 7.6 assists in 30.2 minutes over 21 games for the Clippers.
