Darvin Ham addresses Lakers loss vs. Clippers

The Lakers lost against the Clippers (118-125) as they virtually lost chances of earning a direct playoff spot.

Theoretically, that is still possible, but for the Purple and Gold would need to win twice and hope that their city rivals lose both of their remaining games.

Another possibility of making the playoffs without going through the play-in tournament is for the Lakers to tie the Warriors’ record. The Dubs are one game above Los Angeles.

Speaking about the loss against the Clippers, Lakers head coach Darvin Ham pointed at the long trip to Los Angeles from Salt Lake City as a the reason why his team had a slow start and face an uphill battle throughout the game.

“The trip we just came off. We don’t want to use excuses, sometimes they’re not excuses,” Ham said. “This is real life circumstances. We knew in order to make a game of it and give ourselves a chance we had to start the right way.

“Obviously getting in very late, dealt with some different types of weather, different types of elements. It was going to be tough. But still our group is competitive. The game could have been easily over in the first half.

“But again, we calibrated at half time, guys came out, competed their butts off. they tried to give us a chance to win. We didn’t come away with a W, but I’m super duper proud of our team on the way they performed tonight after getting down of facing a little bit of adversity within the game.

“But also just over this last stretch of weeks, month, whatever it’s been. Guys just constantly fighting and clawing. We’ve mishandled a couple of games in terms of allowing teams to stay close or getting back into or whatever.

“Nonetheless, this is a prideful competitive group and we had some things that just didn’t go our way. It was definitely a lack of energy at the out start, lack of execution. But we pulled ourselves together to try to give ourselves a chance and that’s all you can ask for.”
