The Pelicans are still waiting for Zion Williamson to fully recover from a thigh injury that has kept the former number one draft pick out of action since early January.

NBA insider Shams Charania reports that the 22-year-old power has played some low intensity 3-on-3 basketball with New Orleans’ coaches.

“Zion Williamson played in some low intensity 3-on-3 the other day. He played with some coaches,” Charania said on Pat McAfee Show. “So he’s back on the court. He’s getting some scrimmage work in, some low intensity 3-on-3 from what I’m told.”

According to Charania, the Pelicans will re-evaluate Williamson this week. It is possible that he will play in the play-in tournament if he can’t come back earlier.

“They’re going to re-evaluate him at some point this week. We’ll see. Will he be able to come back with 1 or 2 games left on the regular season? If he can’t do it, they’ll just throw him out there in a play-in tournament game.

“The Pelicans, I’m told, they’re going to be cautious with it, they’re going to make sure that they’re going to bring him back good condition wise and also being able to play.”

This season Williamson is averaging 26 points, 7 rebounds and 4.6 assists in 33 minutes per game.

New Orleans is currently 8th in the Western Conference and have almost secured a spot in the play-in tournament, though they could go even higher and clinch a direct playoff spot.
