Jrue Holiday: Giannis is overlooked in MVP convo because of the LeBron James effect

When it comes to the MVP race this season, two names come up most frequently – Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid. Giannis Antetokounmpo is generally considered to be behind those two.

His teammate Jrue Holiday thinks that the Greek Freak deserves to win the award but the fact people are used to seeing him do what he does makes it less likely. Holiday likened the situation to that of LeBron James.

Via Jamal Collier of ESPN:

“[Antetokounmpo] has been MVP too much,” Bucks guard Jrue Holiday said of why his teammate has been overlooked in the conversation. “He’s been doing this too much, I feel like people get bored of it. It’s kind of like the [LeBron James] effect. LeBron has done it so many times that people think that it’s normal now. And it’s not.”

This season Antetokounmpo is averaging 31.1 points, 11.8 rebounds and 5.6 assists in 32.1 minutes per game. He is the league’s 5th top scorer.
