University of Michigan freshman cager Jett Howard will now take his talents to the NBA, he told ESPN’s Jonathan Givony.
Howard, who is still recovering from injuries for both of his ankle, is grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Wolverines program. He is ranked No. 15 on the ESPN’s 2023 NBA Mock Draft.
“This was a great learning year for me,” Howard told Givony. “It’s what I needed. It taught me how to play within a pro-style offense and be effective, to get out of my comfort zone, and play with other good players.”
The 19-year-old Howard is the son of former NBA star and current Michigan head coach Juwan Howard. He was named to the Big Ten All-Freshmen Team this season and a member of the Third-team All-Big Ten from the votes of coaches.
Upon playing 29 games for the Wolverines, the young swingman averaged 14.2 points, 2.8 boards, 2.0 assists.
“I’ve had both ankles nagging for a while, so my dad [Juwan Howard] and the coaching staff agreed with the specialist that it’s better for me to get to 100%,” Howard said. “I was only 50-60% [healthy] for most of the Big Ten. My dad being the coach, he is was looking out for me and wanted the best for my health. He understands that ankles are tricky. I met with a specialist after the Big Ten tournament and they wanted me to rehab for four to five weeks.”
