Paul George is slated to undergo an MRI Wednesday to determine the severity of his right leg injury which he sustained against the OKC Thunder, per Tomer Azarly of ClutchPoints. Azarly added that George left the Crypto.com Arena riding on the back of a cart with his leg extended while having crutches.
George sustained the injury late in the fourth period of the L.A. Clippers’ 101-100 loss against the Thunder, landing his right leg awkwardly after a rebound battle with Lu Dort.
George ended the night with 18 markers, as his absence ultimately limited Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers to taking down the Thunder in the crucial endgame.
A hyperextension that didn’t sustain any structural damage to the knee usually takes 10 to 14 days to recover. But if a player gains key damages like an ACL tear, it will take surgery and months of basketball inactivity for him to get fully healed. But given George’s injury history, swirling concerns around the Clips huddle can’t be easily discarded.
L.A. drops to a 38-35 record but still occupies the Western Conference’s fifth seed. They will look to maintain their hold atop to evade a potential Play-in scenario.
As for the status of George, the whole Clippers franchise is certainly hoping that their star swingman won’t be out for a long time, as this will affect their chances to contend come playoff action this season.
