Aaron Gordon is on a mission of trying to win his first NBA championship with the Denver Nuggets. As such, he is doing this not for himself, but for all of his teammates according to Mike Singer of the Denver Post.
“I’m not here to win a championship for myself,” Gordon said. “I’m here to win a championship for Joker (Nikola Jokic). Joker’s here to win a championship for Jamal (Murray) and Michael Malone and Michael Porter. KCP, we’re looking to get him another one. I’m not doing this for myself. I’m doing it for the guys around me.”
As he arrived on the team in the 2020-21 midseason, Gordon instantly plugged himself as Nikola Jokic’s frontcourt mate as their game pretty much complements each other. With the forward using his athleticism and high-flying tendencies, these traits can only work perfectly on the reigning two-time MVP’s all-around mastery.
But their partnership is yet to meet that ultimate success. Gordon has seen the Nuggets’ title hopes crumble over the last two seasons given the fact that both Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. were limited because of injuries.
But now this season, Denver is poised to finally go deep as they boast the best record in the Western Conference at 46-20. With stars seeming aligned for them for a potentially deep playoff run, Gordon can only hope that setbacks won’t appear as they target that championship they’ve been coveting.
