The legendary Jim Boeheim won’t return for another collegiate basketball season in Syracuse – marking an end of an era for the Orangemen.

Following Syracuse’s heartbreaking 77-73 loss against Wake Forest in the ACC Tournament, it was announced that associate head coach Adrian Autry will take the coaching helm of Boeheim.

“There is no doubt in my mind that without Jim Boeheim, Syracuse basketball would not be the powerhouse program it is today,” Chancellor Kent Syverud said in a statement. “Jim has invested and dedicated the majority of his life to building this program, cultivating generations of student-athletes and representing his alma mater with pride and distinction. I extend my deep appreciation and gratitude to an alumnus who epitomizes what it means to be ‘Forever Orange.'”

This ends Boeheim’s 47-year run with Syracuse – a golden tenure that was filled with glorious and heartwarming moments.

Boeheim has an official coaching record of 1,015-441 over his career. He also went on to lead the program to 35 NCAA tournament appearances, five Final Four finishes, and a title in 2003 with future Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony as his leadman.

The 78-year-old longtime mentor took over as Syracuse’s head coach in 1976, and the rest was history.
