The Dallas Mavericks star guard Kyrie Irving settled the game down at times using his short-range shot creation ability, even executing some tough looks over the Phoenix Suns big man Deandre Ayton. The player was asked about his short-range game:

“I think it really comes down to being aware of where everyone is spaced and then also the spatial awareness of when the defender comes up and the momentum of the carry.

“Deandre [Ayton] was coming up a few times and was out of position initially to start, so I got a direct eye-sight view of where he was at, and then attack opposite or try to get him off his rhythm, or get him in foul trouble. That third quarter, I was trying to be very aggressive to get downhill and get us going after the half.”
