Joel Embiid: “I’ve come to find out that you can’t win alone”

One of the best big men in the NBA, Joel Embiid, gets lots of attention from the opposing defenses. And he’s learning to read the situations and to make the right plays.

Often that means passing the ball to his teammates when he gets double-teamed. During the game against the Nets the Cameroonian superstar scored team-high 37 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

He also had 2 assists, but says that that number could have been at least 10 had his teammates made their shots. Even if they struggle with their shooting, Embiid is determined to continue making the right plays instead of trying to force everything by himsel.

Via Sam DiGiovanni of ClutchPoints:

“I can shoot over double teams and I can make some of those shots,” he said. “But I’ve come to find out that you can’t win alone. You need to trust your teammates even when they’re missing. You need to keep making the right plays, making the right reads. That’s how you play basketball. You’re not gonna win by being selfish and taking all the shots and shooting over double teams and triple teams.”
