A LeBron James’ game-worn jersey in Game 7 of the 2013 NBA Finals has reportedly fetched millions in value.
Auction house Sotheby announced Friday that the said precious jersey was sold for $3.68 million – the third-highest sale for a game-worn jersey ever auctioned in history while being the most lucrative out of any jerseys donned by James.
Michael Jordan’s game-worn jersey in Game 1 of the 1998 NBA Finals ($10.1 million) remains standing as the most valuable jersey ever sold, followed by Diego Maradona’s “Hand of God” goal jersey in the 1986 World Cup ($9.3 million).
The historic No. 6 white Miami jersey shatters the previous record for the most expensive jersey of James, surpassing the $630,000 mark established by the four-time MVP’s 2020 All-Star Game game-worn uniform.
“Today’s tremendous result comes at a pivotal time in LeBron James’ career, where he is in arm’s reach of clenching the all-time points record – one of the NBA’s most revered accolades,” Sotheby’s officials said, via TMZ.
The memorabilia holds a sky-high value. Wearing the said jersey, James powered the Heat against the San Antonio Spurs in title-clinching Game 7 of the Finals series, 98-88, finishing with a game-high 37 markers and 13 boards.
With the win, James clinched his second career championship while handing the Miami franchise it’s third overall.
The overwhelming bidding and purchase of this record-breaking jersey can’t be more significant enough with James slowly inching to surpass the great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the NBA’s all-time scoring leaderboard.
