Grizzlies not consider moving a veteran due to experience, leadership he brings – insider

The Memphis Grizzlies hold very high regard for Danny Green.

According to ESPN’s Zach Lowe in his The Lowe Post podcast with Bobby Marks (h/t HoopsHype), the Grizzlies are off in considering a trade for Green given the significant impact he’s bringing to the young club this season.

“I keep hearing that (the Grizzlies) don’t want to trade Danny Green. They love Danny Green’s locker room presence. They think he might play for them the rest of the season whenever he comes back.”

Green, who was acquired by Memphis last offseason, is set to make his season debut on Feb. 1 against the Portland Trail Blazers per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Green notably sustained an ACL and LCL tear in his left knee in the second round of last year’s playoffs as a former member of the Philadelphia 76ers.

The franchise has been salivating for that needed experience around their promising roster bannered by Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, and Jaren Jackson Jr., and having Green only matches their ultimate intent to continue learning and developing that title aspiration. Green, 35, is the only player within the Grizzlies camp that has won an NBA title, winning three in total as a member of the San Antonio Spurs (2014), Toronto Raptors (2019), and Los Angeles Lakers (2020) title teams.

To add, Green has that fond familiarity with head coach Taylor Jenkins, who is a branch of Gregg Popovich’s towering and prosperous coaching tree in San Antonio.

With Grizzlies trending up their case as a title contender, having a proven role player like Green on their side can only help their maturity and composure flow in to reach that full potential.
