Mitchell Robinson out for three weeks after urgent surgery

Mitchell Robinson underwent a successful surgery to address his right thumb fracture, the New York Knicks announced Thursday.

The big man is set to be out and will be re-evaluated on a three-week basis.

Robinson sustained the injury in last Wednesday’s loss against the Washington Wizards, wherein he left prematurely during the first half and was ruled out due to a thumb sprain.

This season, Mitchell is averaging 7.2 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks. He is also shooting 67.4 percent from the field.

The looming inactivity of the 24-year-old center can only hand a huge dent in the Knicks’ frontcourt presence. As such, Isaiah Hartenstein and Jericho Simms will definitely split the minutes of Robinson, as they are expected to make a necessary step up toward their production.
