Alex English airs congratulations to Nikola Jokic for passing him in the Nuggets’ record

With Nikola Jokic breaking his Denver Nuggets franchise record in total assists made in Wednesday’s win against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Alex English can only supply a fitting congratulations for the Serbian superstar.

Penning down a heartfelt tweet following the surpassing of his record, English made it known that he is proud of Jokic moving ahead of him on the all-time assists leaderboard of the Nuggets.

The hall of fame forward also made his early pitch for Jokic’s case in bagging three-straight MVP honors – an achievement that hasn’t been done since the great Larry Bird from 1984-86.

Jokic moved past English on the team’s assists ladder in the third period of the match, firing a bullet inbound pass to Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to beat the sleeping Timberwolves team.

In 837 games played, English churned out 3,679 assists in his entire time for the Nuggets. As such, Jokic played 568 games – much less to beat his record.

Right in his postgame interview, Jokic stated that being the Nuggets’ all-time king in assists is a proud achievement for him, which delivers a testament to having that solid bond and enjoyable basketball with his teammates.

“To be honest, maybe that’s the first thing I’m kind of proud of, just because hopefully my teammates love to play with me because I share the ball,” Jokic said.

“So maybe that’s the first time I was kind of proud, probably.”

Jokic also tallied a triple-double against the Wolves, finishing with 31 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists to keep the hold of his team in the sole possession of the Western Conference’s top seed.
