Apparently, the Houston Rockets still demand a high value for Eric Gordon.
According to league insider Marc Stein, the Rockets have an asking price for Gordon that is similar to the Detroit Pistons for Bojan Bogdanovic.
“Two rival teams have mentioned to me recently that Houston’s asking price for Eric Gordon is similar to Detroit’s with Bogdanović. Does that mean (gasp) an unprotected first-round pick for Gordon? Perhaps that explains why Gordon, also never an All-Star but a 2016-17 Sixth Man of the Year, continues to be a Rocket. I would suspect that Houston does not think Gordon, at 34, can fetch that sort of return, but it’s another indication of how high prices are in general with 30-ish days to go before the trade deadline given the scarcity of sellers leaguewide.”
In frequent trade murmurs around Bogdanovic, the Pistons are reportedly looking for a first-rounder and a young asset in order to consider pulling away from the Croatian marksman.
As such, it appears that this serves as a basis also for the Rockets, who view Gordon as an important veteran around their blooming young core.
Gordon, 34, has been on the Rockets squad since the team’s contending status with James Harden. He has a non-guaranteed year next season, which makes him difficult to assess based on the plan of the franchise.
But with the given price tag he has, teams might be hesitant to let go of a future asset to acquire him. This season, the former Sixth Man of the Year is just averaging 11.5 points on 41.7 percent shooting – still fair numbers but not that quite productive if compared to the past seasons.
In the end, only time can tell if the Rockets will lower their demand on Gordon so that they’ll be able to seize his value as they continue building their future foundation.
