Taylor Jenkins on Ja Morant: “The sky’s the limit for the kid”

Memphis Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins talked about Ja Morant’s progression since his rookie year after last night’s 131-107 road win vs. the Charlotte Hornets (23 points/1 rebound/8 assists/2 steals/8-17 FG/2-5 3-PT/5-6 FT).

(via Memphis Grizzlies):

“He’s always progressing. The sky’s the limit for the kid. He wants to get coached. He wants to get pushed in all areas to get better. From year one, just seeing his work that he’s put in on his three-point shot. He comes out tonight firing early, two for five for the game. Taking more time at the free throw line, working on that knowing he’s a force and he’s going to get foul calls. His playmaking, getting on the same page with his teammates as we’ve evolved our offense and kinda gotten a really good understanding of what we want to do, spacing wise, screening angle wise. Where we’re putting personnel, his leadership and understanding what we’re doing there.

“His growth defensively coming into the season, you knew that was going to be a focal point for him. And then, just overall leadership. Just knowing as all the guys say, ‘We go, as he goes.’ The joy, the spirit he plays with, we’ve got so many other guys that have leadership roles on this team, but Ja understands that he can really just continue to push us to that next level. He’s really embraced that, you can see it on the court with the joy he plays with, how he talks to the guys in huddles, how he talks to guys on planes rides, locker rooms, film sessions. I’ve just seen progressive growth, and we’re never gonna stop pushing him to get better in all those areas.”
