ESPN’s Brian Windhorst proposes a trade of Kyle Lowry in exchange for D’Angelo Russell

As the Minnesota Timberwolves became the focal point of discussions just in recent days, there could be perhaps plenty of trades to consider in order for them to save their season much early.

In his Hoop Collective podcast, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst hypothesized a trade idea wherein the Timberwolves will ship D’Angelo Russell to the Miami Heat for Kyle Lowry. According to Windhorst, Lowry will be a suitable guard for Minnesota, with Miami benefitting on one end as they will be able to dump his hefty salary.

“One player that I have thought about would be – could they (the Wolves) call Miami and get Kyle Lowry,” Windhorst said.

“Because he’s the type of veteran guy who I think would really help them. And I think that the Heat might be interested in getting out from that contract.”

Questions have begun circling around the Timberwolves this season. Despite having a promising offseason bannered by the acquisition of Rudy Gobert, they are nowhere to be found in the Western Conference’s circle of contention currently. With Karl-Anthony Towns still out, the club has been moving backwards while fighting speculations being formed by the league circles.

Having a Kyle Lowry might make instant wonders for the team, given his rich experience and the vital floor-raising he provides. His years of playing competitive basketball, playmaking ability, and being around through ups and downs truly fit like a glove on what the T-Wolves need for a leader that can inspire them. Moreover, Lowry might be that needed assist maker to unlock Gobert’s fit and positioning to the team, as Russell remains struggling to find consistency and is on an expiring contract.

The former star point man will be an expiring asset for the Heat next year and is set to be paid more than $29 million. Given his age and possible further declining of his game, Miami office boss Pat Riley may at least consider seizing his value and clear that sizeable cap space for a much high-caliber floor general that can run with Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, and Tyler Herro for a title.

This hypothetical trade idea by Windhorst seems appealing to pull, with both teams getting benefits on their plans and intentions.
