Is the Future Bright for the San Antonio Spurs?

If you were paying any attention to the San Antonio Spurs during their horrendous month of November, then you’d be hard-pressed to find all that many signs of encouragement. They won only one game and seemed to be in complete free-fall. Thankfully for Spurs fans, they’ve corrected themselves a little bit, and now we’re at a point where we’re beginning to see signs of growth. So, is the future bright for the San Antonio Spurs?

Recent Victories

It was obvious that the San Antonio Spurs would win a game eventually. But to get three victories in a row was something that would have delighted the team, especially since they came against the Rockets, Heat, and Cavaliers. This isn’t enough to turn the season around, but it does show character. It’s important that the Spurs are a young team who is still finding its feet. They’ve got the talent — and with each comeback from a series of defeats, they add experience and character to their bow of credentials, too.

Players Returning to Form

It’s true that the Spurs would be in a much better position if their big players hadn’t hit a collective slump at the beginning of the season. But there are signs that things are beginning to click. Before the season, Keldon Johnson was touted as one of the 3 NBA players to watch, and now, he’s finally beginning to show why. He’s shooting and scoring more and made a decisive last-minute block in the victory against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Romeo Langford is another player who seems to have found his rhythm for the Spurs. If both those players can continue their development, then Spurs can be hopeful for the future.

Coaching Developments

Finally, there’s the coaching progress that the Spurs are making. It’s only a couple of months since they added Candice Dupree, a former WNBA star, to their coaching roster. She joins Brett Brown, who recently signed with the Spurs coaching team. No one expected these two would bring overnight success to the team. It’ll take time before Spurs players have fully ingested their knowledge and coaching, but we’ve already seen some signs of growth. This might be a year to forget, but next year could offer a very different prospect for the young team.
