Stephen A. Smith doesn’t think Warriors can stay relevant without Steph Curry

The Warriors were dealt a major blow as they lost Steph Curry for at least couple of weeks due to an injury.

Even with him on the floor, Golden State has been struggling so far this season. Currently the team sits in the 10th place in the Western Conference.

Sports analyst Stephen A. Smith does not believe that the Dubs can stay relevant without Curry as he does not think that Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole can adequately cover for his absence.

“I don’t think they can, to be quite honest with you. I don’t mean to sound that way, but I don’t think they can” Smith said on ESPN’s First Take.

“When we see what we’ve seen thus far this season, although for the most part the starters have played significantly well and the bench hasn’t produced the way they’re capable of doing, Steph Curry is head and shoulders the star of this team and his level of play far exceed that of any of his teammates.

“He’s averaging 29.6 points on 43% shooting from three-point range this season. He’s been an absolute superstar and everybody else paled in comparison.”

“The focus would shift to Klay Thompson, what he’s capable of doing, and to a lesser degree, Jordan Poole and what he’s capable of doing. That’s the only thing that has a prayer of offsetting the absence of Steph Curry, and I don’t even think that’s going to be good enough,” Smith concluded.
