Will Hardy on Simone Fontecchio’s performance vs. Warriors: “I think he was great”

Utah Jazz head coach Will Hardy had some great things to say about Italian rookie Simone Fontecchio after his solid performance vs. the Golden State Warriors during their 124-123 home win last night (career-high 18 points/scored the go-ahead dunk with 1.4 seconds left).

(via Fanatics View Hoops):

“I think he was great. His national team coach is in town, so maybe he should come more. But similar to Nickeil [Alexander-Walker], we’ve had a bunch of guys on our team because of our depth, we have some good players that don’t get to play every night. He’s been a pro since he was 16 years old, and he continues to work every single day. Another guy that never complains, never asks for more. Some nights he plays a decent amount, and some nights he plays none.

“We all know he’s a capable player and he can really shoot. He’s smart and knows what he’s doing, you saw that when he drove the closeout and got the left handed dunk. He reads the game very, very well. It’s always rewarding when you see guys that behind the scenes have been putting in a lot of work and staying ready. Even though they maybe haven’t gotten what they wanted individually, to see them in a game like this tonight, and come out and play a good game, that always makes you feel good.”
