Mike Young describes Virginia Tech’s offensive mindset: “Turning down a good shot for a great shot”

Virginia Tech head coach Mike Young talked about his team’s mindset on offense after defeating North Carolina 80-72 at home last night, led by versatile forward Justyn Mutts’ 27 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 assists.

(via Virginia Tech Athletics):

“To share. To pass the ball to an open teammate. Make an extra pass. Turning down a good shot for a great shot. If I say it once, I’ll say it a thousand times each year, it’s kinda who we are and what is embraced. And if someone’s turned down, they hear about it. Not from me, but we don’t do that here. We were 6th in the country in assist to turnover ratio coming in, we’ve been under 10 as an average I believe. 16 assists is good. Mutts is such a great passer, the 5 turnovers was the first thing he said to me in the locker room afterwards. He’ll get better there. I’m certainly not going to take him out of the game.”
