Lauri Markkanen says Bulls didn’t know if NBA teams were allowed to practice after a back-to-back when Jim Boylen took over

Lauri Markkanen revealed that the 2018-19 Chicago Bulls players stood in the parking lot when coach Jim Boylen had practice after a back-to-back because they didn’t know if it was allowed (lost by 56 points vs. the Boston Celtics at home the night before).

(via The Old Man and the Three with JJ Redick and Tommy Alter):

Redick: “I didn’t even know it was legal to practice after a back-to-back. I thought that was like universal across the league, Players Association?”

Markkanen: “That’s how it started. ‘We’re not allowed to practice.’ And then, our reps started to call the Union. Like, ‘No, you guys are allowed to practice. You normally don’t practice, but you’re allowed to practice.’ And that’s what we were talking about in the parking lot. Like, ‘Oh, it’s not a rule. We can still practice, and now we’re in it together.’”
