Nets ‘touched base’ with Hawks about John Collins – rumors

The Brooklyn Nets have appeared as a new team to watch on the rolling John Collins trade mill.

According to SNY’s Ian Begley, the Nets have reportedly “touched base” with the Atlanta Hawks about Collins.

“I’m told the Nets have indeed touched base with Atlanta about Collins. Just interesting because that’s, I think the Nets are in search of some help along the front line. Collins can certainly help them. I’m not sure how far along those talks went. But they’ve certainly engaged recently, so something to keep an eye on there.”

Upon signing an extension with the Hawks back in the 2021 off-season, Collins suddenly emerged as a rumored trade chip by the Hawks. Earlier this season, Shams Charania of The Athletic detailed that the club “opened up preliminary trade discussions” regarding the availability of the big man.

The Phoenix Suns and the Utah Jazz reportedly have shown interest in Collins, and the addition of the Nets today is truly enticing about their plans to boost that frontcourt with superstar Kevin Durant anchoring the wing.

Collins is averaging 12.3 points and 7.5 rebounds while shooting 48.4 percent from the field. His current low numbers may be appearing uninclined in the eyes of the Hawks based on their five-year, $125MM agreement.
