Evan Fournier not thinking about trade out of Knicks in light of playing absence

As he remains out of the New York Knicks rotation, Evan Fournier isn’t thinking yet of a potential trade.

Fournier is still clinging in hopes that there could be changes soon as the season is still at its early stage, further noting that the travel restrictions could give difficulties for his family.

“Like I said, I’m not thinking about (a trade) yet,” Fournier told Melvin Karsenti of Basket USA (h/t HoopsHype). “In 82 games, a lot of things can change. I hope it won’t be the case but there could be injuries, there could be a transfer. You never know what can happen.

“And to be totally genuine, my wife who is pregnant and due in February, so transferring now means I won’t see my family for several months, I won’t see my new son. I’m at a stage in my career where that’s hard, and I don’t necessarily want to go through that… So it’s a complicated situation, also on the family level. So let’s be patient for now and we’ll see.”

Fournier was benched out by head coach Tom Thibodeau on Nov. 15 when the Knicks won against the Utah Jazz.

Certainly, his numbers this season can’t help his case to be back in play, averaging 6.9 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.7 assists on 13 occasions while shooting 34.4 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from deep.

Given that the Knicks were rumored looking to shop several of their guards to shave their thick backcourt slate, the veteran is an identifiable candidate to be traded. As such, his hefty contract that will run through the 2024-2024 season could be a difficult one to deal with.
