Kerr: Warriors to send James Wiseman down in G League for an ‘extended period’

The Golden State Warriors are transferring James Wiseman to their G League affiliate Santa Cruz Warriors, head coach Steve Kerr announced on Monday.

Kerr made it clear that this won’t serve as a demotion for Wiseman, who played nine minutes in the team’s recent demolition against the San Antonio Spurs. They intend the big man to spend “10 straight days” down the G League for much better exposure.

“Yeah, he going to go to Santa Cruz tomorrow and we will keep him there for an extended period to get really good practice time and some games,” Kerr told reporters, via NBC Sports. “It’s not going to be one game and bring him back, we want to give him 10 straight days, something like that, and then come back.”

Wiseman still looks rusty in his comeback for the Dubs this season, as he sat down for the entirety of the 2021-22 campaign nursing his meniscus surgery recovery.

This year, he is averaging 6.8 points, 3.8 boards in 13.4 minutes. Prior to the eventual Monday win, he received three-straight DNPs for the Dubs’ duel against the Cleveland Cavaliers and in back-to-back with the Sacramento Kings.

“We all know things happen in this league,” Kerr added. “He’s going to find his way back to the rotation at some point. But the best thing for him is to play a lot of minutes and get a lot of reps.”
