Jayson Tatum shrugs off controversial technical foul against OKC

Boston Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum isn’t convinced of the phantom technical foul assessment by an official against him on Monday.

Tatum was whistled for a technical foul early in the second frame of the Celtics’ home game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, wherein he clapped out of frustration upon handing a personal foul over Aleksej Pokusevski.

Prior to the sequence, Tatum was having a cold night, going 1-of-8 in shooting for the first 13 minutes of the match.

Tatum acknowledged the misery he felt on his slow start, but reiterated that he didn’t know what happened that forced the referee to blow the whistle.

“I think I just missed a layup and I just committed a foul. Anybody in the arena, anybody watching the game could have seen I was frustrated with myself,” Tatum explained, via MassLive’s Brian Robb. “I didn’t say anything, I didn’t look at them. After the game, just laugh it off.”

The technical foul drew a reaction in the NBA’s social media world, even from Kevin Durant.

Still, Tatum went off to feast with 27 points and 10 boards in 9-for-23 shooting to lead the Cs past OKC, 126-122. The win moves the club atop the Eastern Conference standings, overtaking the Milwaukee Bucks.
