Rival execs: Coby White a trade candidate for Bulls seeking moves ahead before trade deadline

After failing to reach a rookie scale extension, several rival executives are looking at Coby White as a trade chip by the Chicago Bulls, via HoopsHype’s Mike Scotto. The Bulls are looking ahead before the trade deadline to potentially wrap up the fourth-year point man.

As pointed out by Scotto, White’s role and production within the Bulls have declined for the past three years. After promising glimpses to start his career as the seventh overall pick of the 2019 rookie selection, he slowly slides out of the team’s rotation while being rocked by inconsistency issues.

This season, he is currently averaging a lowly 8.1 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in a career-low 38.2 percent shooting from the field in seven games. He is also chucking up a career-worst 29.4 percent efficiency from long distance in 4.9 attempts per game. With Lonzo Ball out indefinitely, Ayo Dosumnu, Alex Caruso, and Goran Dragic have overtaken him in terms of exposure within Chicago’s backcourt slate.

White has missed the Bulls’ eight-straight games to start this season due to thigh soreness. Still at age 22, White still has plenty of games remaining to elevate his value, as he will enter the next free agency as an unrestricted free agent.

As such for the Bulls, White either improving or declining can only be beneficial if they truly intend to make impactful moves in preparation for a much deeper run this 2022-23, as they are currently ranked at the 11th of the East with a 6-8 tally.
