Anthony Davis’ passive second-half vs Cavs draws discussion from Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers weren’t able to keep their foot on the gas pedal on Sunday against the Cleveland Cavaliers, 114-100.

Anthony Davis, who assumes a great responsibility as an absolute star in L.A., is most notably the player behind this struggle, as he only dropped two shot attempts in the second half of their eventual loss.

For his part, LeBron James acknowledged that the big man has to gain plenty of touches to make contributions.

“Obviously, it starts with AD and getting him more touches,” James said about Davis, via ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. “Our focal point is and always should be to make sure he touches the ball throughout the course of possessions, quarters, halves.”

Darvin Ham reiterated that several sets are already there for Davis, but clarifies that organization is needed.

“We have a playbook. We have a menu and a bunch of sets where AD can be featured,” Ham said. “You have to just be organized.”

This marks the second-straight game that Davis’ second-half presence went passive. On their Friday loss against the Utah Jazz, he only compiled two points on 1-for-4 shooting after the break. This came in after he sizzled with 18 before the halftime buzzer rang.

“He’s got my blessing to scream out, call his own number,” Ham said. “We tried to get him going, tried to get Bron going on some post actions and some step-ups and pick-and-roll stuff. It’s not like we’re not trying.”
