Kevin Durant, Nets cherishing relief from two-game win streak after dramatic week

After a series of hellish occurrences filled by chaotic news and controversies, the Brooklyn Nets found a crucial reason to continue fighting this 2022-23 campaign

“It was a unique experience for sure,” Kevin Durant said after the game, courtesy of ESPN’s Nick Friedell. “But a lot of guys been through different things in this league before, and a lot of guys have been through some adversity in this league off the court. Having to lock back in and focus solely on the game, I think that we all get a little bit of solace in doing that, just playing the game of basketball, getting that camaraderie, that fellowship with your teammates, I think that was able to get us through.”

Following a drama-filled week headlined by disgruntled Steve Nash exiting their coaching slate, Ben Simmons out as he is nursing his knee injury, and Kyrie Irving still at front of public outcry due to his antisemitism actions, the Nets clawed their way up from the depths of Eastern Conference and now in the win column, sealing two-straight wins after outlasting the Charlotte Hornets last Saturday.

The Nets were looking for some life after the embattled stages they embarked to start this season. But thanks to their recent win, things appear to start healing up on their wounded side.

But the fact that they are still adjusting from Nash’s dismissal, Simmons’s injury absence, and Irving out indefinitely as he is set to follow the franchise’s conditions to finally make a return, Durant acknowledged that this could be the toughest hill they have to climb.

“There’s going to be more peaks and valleys throughout the season, but this is probably going to be the toughest thing we deal with as a group,” Durant said. “To know that we can get through this and continue to stick together, I think that’s important.”

Getting back on the win board and even having a two-game win skid has served its purpose of providing a sigh of relief for Brooklyn. As such, the future hall of famer is holding his optimism that they can continue moving forward with unknown hurdles still yet to be unveiled.

“I just think we rallied around each other,” Durant said. “It was a tough week for us. And it’s always good to just get back to the game. Once the ball is tipped all the bulls— goes out the window.

“So I think everybody was just waiting to get back to playing, and we also lost three or four games before that, so we just felt some pride and wanted to come out here and get some W’s. So it’s good for our character, it’s good for the energy of the team and to fight through adversity.”
