Bulls ‘very, very optimistic’ on Lonzo Ball’s road to knee recovery

The Chicago Bulls have their hopes intact for their still recovering point man Lonzo Ball.

Per K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports, head coach Billy Donovan has noted that everything is “very, very optimistic” about Ball’s knee surgery recovery, but reiterated that there’s no definite date yet of return.

“He feels a lot freer than he did prior to the surgery,” Donovan added. “Obviously, he’s a ways away from running and cutting and doing all those things. But there is optimism that this hopefully has helped him.”

Ball hasn’t played competitive basketball since January due to a lingering bone bruise and meniscus tear in his left knee, and he was required to undergo a second surgery last September that put him on a four-to-six weeks timeline to recover.

The former No. 2 overall pick inked a four-year, $80 million deal with the Bulls back in 2021 offseason. Before going down, he displayed solid showing for the franchise faithful due to his ability to run point and two-way impacts, averaging 13.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.8 steals in 35 games in the previous season.
