Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault praised Lu Dort & Darius Bazley for their great defense on Luka Doncic vs. the Dallas Mavericks.
(via Bally Sports Southwest):
“We had a really good game against him with the floor numbers. He shot very inefficiently. He shot 19 free throws, and a lot of those were lessons we can learn. We fouled him on threes a couple different times. We fouled him on hand discipline stuff from the help defenders and on ball guys. And he’s just too good to do that to. So I think there’s a lot of lessons there. But if you remove the free throws and zoom out at his night. He’s a great player obviously on offense.
“Dort & Bazley specifically, and really Dort, there’s not a lot of teams that can just line up the coverages we line up. It’s just so reliant on having a guy like Lu. Including end of game. We’re not doubling the guy at the end of the game because you got a guy like Lu Dort guarding him. Doesn’t mean he won’t make the shots sometimes, but Lu’s gonna make him earn it. That’s what he does. He did it to Edwards in the first game. He did it to Paul George the other night. He’s done it for two years. This is nothing new from him. So I thought him and Baz with Doncic in particular were incredible tonight.”
