Dwane Casey says Pistons have to be more prideful on defense

Detroit Pistons head coach Dwane Casey talked about what it will take to improve on defense following Friday’s 136-112 home loss against the Atlanta Hawks.

(via Bally Sports Detroit):

“Just taking that defensive pride of going one-on-one. That’s basically what it comes down to, and guarding your guy. At the end of the day, you gotta get up and challenge the shots. Take pride into it. Whether we’re switching. Whether we’re in blue. Whether we’re in zone. And this was the first night that I didn’t see that commitment to the defensive end of the floor.

“They shot almost 57 percent, and that’s just a sign of lack of commitment. 112 points is enough points offensively. So we gotta make up our mind defensively that we’re not gonna let a team just walk in and do what they wanna do to us. Whether it’s fouling or whatever. We only sent them to the free throw line 18 times, and some of those were hardly contested. But most of them, they got what they wanted offensively.”
