Grant Williams suspended by one game after unnecessary contact with referee

Boston Celtics big man Grant Williams was slapped by the NBA with a one-game suspension after “recklessly making contact with and directing inappropriate language toward a game official.”

Williams made an unnecessary contact with a referee on the team’s previous match against the Chicago Bulls last Monday, triggering an ejection call after reacting on a blocking foul he committed.

Per ESPN’s Bobby Marks, Williams will hand away a $29,698 salary. He is slated to serve his suspension on the Celtics’ Friday battle against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Williams is averaging 9.5 points, 4.2 boards, 1.5 assists in an impressive 66.7 shooting efficiency from three for the Cs with four games already on board this season. This 2022-23 campaign serves as his contract year after failing to reach a rookie scale extension.
