Wolves initiated extension talks with Jaylen Nowell, Naz Reid – Shams

The Minnesota Timberwolves have started their extension talks on Naz Reid and Jaylen Nowell, sources told Shams Charania of The Athletic. The two serve as young, reliable young pieces of the Timberwolves’ aspired future.

Per Charania, the Wolves are looking to lock up both Reiz and Nowell before the 2022-23 season ends. They are entering the fourth and final year of their 2019 rookie contract and would be eligible to be signed until Jun. 30.

Reid seems more likely to sign a deal, with Nowell set to hit the market in the 2023 offseason.

Reid has been a reliable big body back up for Karl-Anthony Towns for the past few years, as he is now aiding Rudy Gobert in his first year in Minny. He averaged 9.5 points, 4.2 rebounds in 49 percent shooting throughout his young career.

Meanwhile, the 23-year-old Nowell is also a solid contributor off the bench. He averaged 8.5 points, 2.1 assists and 2.0 boards last season.
