After a splendid performance on Tuesday against fellow lead prospect Scoot Henderson, several executives suggest that projected 2023 top pick Victor Wembanyama has to sit out until next year’s draft.

But the camp of the French wunderkind doesn’t intend to follow it.

“NBA people are telling me to shut him down, and we are not going to shut him down,” Bouna Ndiaye told Adrian Wojnarowski and Jonathan Givony of ESPN. “If we came with that kind of talk to [Wembanyama], he will look at us and say, ‘What are you talking about?’ He’ll never agree to that. He wants to compete and get better. With Victor, it’s basketball first and everything else second. He was so pissed off that he lost.”

Amid the generational traits he possesses, Wembanyama has clear concerns regarding his body composition and injury risk. Being an uncanny, coordinated big who can even navigate the ball, there is an obvious chance that injuries may bother him out.

With what Wembanyama and his camp intends to do amid the suggestions, it appears that he will play on Thursday for a rematch against Henderson’s Ignite.
