The Warriors are taking time and not rushing Klay Thompson to play in preseason games. It was announced previously that the 32-year-old shooting guard will sit out the two NBA Japan Games against the Wizards.

Golden State’s head coach Steve Kerr explained his decision to keep the four-time NBA champion out of the action at this season of the preseason.

According to him, Thompson needs more of a ramp up before he can start playing with the team. Another consideration is his history of injuries.

Via Kendra Andrews of ESPN:

“Just feel more comfortable giving him a little more of a ramp up,” Kerr said ahead of the Warriors’ 96-87 win over the Washington Wizards on Friday. “He’s just not quite ready to play at this point just based on where, you know, we’re so early in camp. We just want to be safe and make sure he gets a good ramp up before he plays in games.”
